About us

Ishindenshin is a duo collaboration devoted to improvised music and artistic expression drawn from explorations in nature. They have been performing together internationally since 2016 and are presently based in Santa Barbara, California.

Seshen is an improvisor, vocalist, and dancer. Originally from Japan, she performs and teaches internationally. She has lived in Europe, Bali, Hawaii, California, Canada, and most recently, Norway (2014-20). Integrating her various artistic, physical, and spiritual practices, as well as Japanese cultural roots, Seshen has cultivated her own eclectic arts and performances which connect with improvisation, nature, and ritual.

Ben Gerstein is a musician and artist from Santa Barbara, California. Primarily a trombonist, he was based in New York City from 1995-2020, collaborating with groups and individuals in the U.S. and abroad. His music and works explore influences of nature, art, and culture through improvisation, multi-instrumental and mixed-media practices.
